I Nadine (Smith) Priestman

I. Nadine (Smith) Priestman, 92, of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at a local hospital. Open casket visitation will be held on Friday, August 31, 2007 from 3-5 p.m. then closed casket visitation with family present will begin from 5-7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2007 also at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Al Hohl officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Ringsted Memorial Cemetery in Ringsted, Iowa.

Nadine was born on January 24, 1915 in Winona, Missouri to James Luther and Effie (Maberry) Harder. She graduated from High School there in 1931. She then attended Springfield State Teachers College.

Nadine moved to Parker, Kansas where she taught in a one-room rural school. She then married Herbert Smith in Parker. The couple then moved to Ringsted, Iowa where she taught in a one-room school in Jack Creek, Iowa, then in a consolidated school in Halfa, Iowa. Nadine then finished her 38 year career in Armstrong Consolidated School. Meantime she received her degree from Drake University in Des Moines.

Nadine was a member of ISEA and NEA, a member of Federated Womens Clubs and District President of GFWC and IFWC. She was a member and past matron of Eastern Star in North Star chapter in Estherville, Iowa. Nadine sang in the choir of the Presbyterian Church in Ringsted and was an ordained elder and Bible Class Teacher.

After her first husband Herbert passed away she was a widow for 13 years, till she married Fred Priestman in August of 1977. Two years later, when she retired from teaching, they spent the winters in Arizona until Fred passed away in 1998.

Survivors include her two sons, Billy V. Smith and his wife Ruth of San Antonio, TX; and Jay C. Smith and his wife Linda of Sioux City, Iowa. 3 step children, Thomas J. Priestman, Betty J. Munro, and Fred J. Priestman. 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, 1 brother and 2 sisters.
