Janie S. Preston

SIOUX CITY -- Janie Sue Preston, 53, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital following a long, courageous battle.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Janie was born Sept. 10, 1957, in Sioux City, the daughter of Raymond and Gloria (McWilliams) Norton. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools.

Janie married Jack A. Preston in November 1979, in Elk Point, S.D. He died in January 2003. She was a longtime employee at the Holiday Inn.

She attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, watching cooking shows and playing farm town on the computer.

Survivors include her longtime companion, Richard Van Owen of Sioux City; a son, Adam Preston and his wife, Jen and their children, Kade and Kole of Sioux City; three daughters, Kari Preston and her husband, Nathan and their children, Andrew Brayton, Alexander and Dakoda, Amie Jacobson and her husband, Chase and their children, Haylee, Hayden, Brooke and Jake, and Katie Farley and her husband, Jonathon and their daughter, Kaydance, all of Sioux City; three sisters, Teresa Cothern and her daughters, Amanda and Jessica of Baytown, Texas, Linda Dicus and her husband, Rob of Sioux Falls, S.D., and their sons, Pat, Cory, Andy and Troy, and Connie Irwin and her husband, Troy and their children, Zach, Megan and Rylee of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Preston; and grandparents.
