Ione Preston

SIOUX CITY -- Ione Preston, 88, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at home.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with Chaplain Bev Herni of Hospice of Siouxland officiating. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ione was born Dec. 17, 1921, in Volin, S.D., to Oscar and Cora (Engen) Haugen. She received her education in Presho, S.D., graduating with the class of 1938, before attending business school in Rapid City for two years.

She relocated to Sioux City, where she married Wayne Preston in July 1950. She took great pride in being a homemaker, raising her four children. Ione enjoyed crocheting and going to the boat.

Ione is survived by her daughters, Karen Neider of Sioux City, Julie Haack and her husband, Wendell of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Jane Herman of Nevada; sister, Margie Schoenhard of Rapid City; sister-in-law, Joan Hanson and her husband, Glenn of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her special companion, Cookie, her Siamese cat.

Ione was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne in 2003; son, James Kelleher; and sisters, Cleova Diedrich and Dorothy Kirschmann.
