Edith L. Powell, 84, of Sioux City, formerly of Shenandoah, Iowa and Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Hallmark Care Center in Sioux City. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Mark Jenkins officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mapleton, Iowa.
Edith was born on July 19, 1923 to Henry Arthur and Grace (Griswold) Powell in Mapleton. She grew up and graduated from Mapleton High School in 1941. She moved to Shenandoah after school and worked at KMA radio. She later began working at Earl May Seed Company retiring after 42 years.
Edith loved all animals especially cats. She also enjoyed gardening, listening to gospel music and watching basketball on T.V. Edith also enjoyed stamp and coin collecting and strap booking. She moved back to Sioux City in 2003 to be closer to her family.
Survivors include 6 nieces and nephews, Keith Nicks and wife Barbara of Hinton, IA, James Nicks and wife Mary of South Sioux City, NE, Kathy Watson and husband John of Sioux City, IA, Robert Nicks and wife Mary of Owasso, OK, Dale Nicks and wife Verna of Hinton, IA and Julie McLeod and husband Jan of Bartelsville, OK. Several great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Floy and her husband Earl Nicks and a great, great nephew Joshua Van Dorn.
