SIOUX CITY -- Louise M. Porterfield, 83, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tess Panamarow officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Louise was born March 22, 1926, in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Hans I. and Dagmar (Neilsen) Hansen. She graduated from Central High School in 1943. Louise married Darrell Soloman on March 26, 1945, in Elk Point, S.D. Darrell was killed in battle during World War II.

She married William Porterfield on June 1, 1946, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1988. Louise worked at the Red Owl Grocery Store and Sioux City Bakery.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Louise loved to play cards and was an avid collector of bird figurines. She liked to garden and plant flowers, but Louise's greatest love was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Brian Porterfield and wife, Ann of Sioux City; a daughter, Sheryl Girard and husband, Tom of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter-in-law, Rosemary Porterfield of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold and wife, Mary Hansen of Sioux City; and two sisters, Leona Quade of Kingsley, Iowa, and Mildred "Tootie" Quigley of Tucson, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Ronald Porterfield.
