Peggy Jo Porter

Peggy Jo Porter, 55 of Sioux City, IA went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 at a local hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday with the family present 6:00-8:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Peggy Jo was born Aug. 14, 1955 in Sioux City the daughter of Robert and Beverly (Varenhorst) Jurgenson. She attended Leeds High School then graduated from North High School in 1973. On Dec. 4, 1976 she married Ronald Anderson in Sioux City. Along with being a homemaker she worked for various businesses. She later married Rodney D. Porter on March 5, 1999 in Sioux City. Peggy was a secretary and bookkeeper for her husband, Rodneys accounting firm from 1994 until present.

In earlier years she was an active P.T.A. member and past-president. She also served on the school board from 1991 until 1993. Peggy was a lifelong, active member of Calvary Lutheran Church and had a strong belief in the Lutheran values by following her Lord, Jesus Christ. Peggy loved her family and loved life. She enjoyed spending time with her children, Rodneys children, as well as her close friends. She was an animal lover and very much loved her dog, JB and all of her grandanimals. She enjoyed following politics and also enjoyed cooking, especially trying new dishes from the Food Network channel.

Survivors include her husband, Rodney; a daughter and her husband, Tobi Jo and John Corey; a son, Rob Anderson all of Sioux City; three step-children, Daniel Porter, Joseph Porter and Sarah Porter all of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Mike and Sandy Jurgenson of Escanaba, MI; a sister, Polly Jo Poe of Sioux City; her mother-in-law, Marilyn Porter of Scribner, NE; a brother-in-law, Patrick Poe; her step-grandchildren, Summer Corey and Jordyn Corey; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Varenhorst, Dan Varenhorst, Dean Cook, P.J. Poe, Clark Boddy and Steven Dereise.
