Clarence A. "Bub" Porter, 82, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital of complications from a heart attack.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Daniel Anderson of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army Reserve. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Clarence was born Oct. 27, 1923, in Flandreau, S.D., the son of Clarence A. and Bessie M. (Sellman) Porter. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Wanda J. Gordon on July 29, 1941, in South Sioux City. Wanda preceded him in death on March 11, 1976. He later married Lois K. (Lingle) Johnson on June 25, 1977, in Las Vegas, Nev.
He worked for Motor Parts Central for several years. Later, he was employed with the city of Sioux City for 26 years as head of parts ordering for city equipment. He retired in 1986.
He was a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine Rat Patrol. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and cars.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; four daughters, Sandra LaPoint and her special friend, Wayne Thietje of Monroe, S.D., Susan and her husband, Gerald Steemken of Omaha, Sally and her husband, Richard Smith of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Pam and her husband, Ron Florke of Jefferson, S.D.; a stepson, Eugene Johnson Jr. of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Karen Holmes; two brothers; two sisters; and a great-grandson in infancy, James Lee Florke.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jon Brown, Andy Florke, Chris Steemken, Mike Steemken, Chad Steemken and Eugene Johnson Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Abu Bekr Shrine Rat Patrol.
