Lillian Mary Pickersgill, 88, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by U.S. Army Reserves. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Lillian was born March 8, 1918, in Lehigh, Iowa, the daughter of Rev. Joseph and Elizabeth (Butler) Pickersgill. She attended grade school in Moville, Iowa and graduated from Mapleton (IA) High School. Lillian served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II, where she attained the rank of captain. She later graduated from Morningside College with a bachelor of science degree in nursing and also graduated from Methodist Nursing School in 1940. She was a surgical nurse at the Methodist Hospital for many years until retiring in 1983.
Lillian was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active in Naomi Circle, P.E.O., Sioux City Women's Club, American Nurses Association, District Nurses Association and also Iowa State Nurses Association. She was also a member of Morningside Alumni Association as well as Methodist Hospital Alumni Association.
Survivors include two nephews and their spouses, Gary and Joyce Pickersgill of Irvine, Calif. and Douglas and Cindy Pickersgill of Chino Hills, Calif.; and three great nieces and nephews, Jason Pickersgill of Los Angeles, Calif., Erin Welch and her husband, Richard of Corona, Calif. and Alex Dendy and her husband, Greg of Pacifica, Calif.
