SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Kevin R. Peterson, 52, a longtime resident of South Sioux City passed away unexpectedly on May 16, 2010.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 21,2010 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with Father Daniel Wittrock officiating. Burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.
Kevin was born Nov. 12, 1957, in Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Fred and Glendina (Gundersen) Peterson. He graduated from Emerson-Hubbard Community School in 1976. He attended college at Kearney State College and received his associate's degree at Western Iowa Tech.
He married Tina Elworth on June 11, 1983, in Plattsmouth, Neb.
Kevin was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He worked at Terra Industries Port Neal for 21 years. He survived the explosion of Terra in December 1994, a life-changing experience.
He enjoyed sports of all types. He participated in high school and college athletics and played slow-pitch softball. He enjoyed watching Musketeer hockey and hosted Muskies for many years. Kevin was a self-taught carpenter and loved doing projects for family, friends and his church. In recent years, he loved riding his Harley and building home computers.
Survivors include his wife, Tina; four children, Tricia and her husband, Greg Barry of Jacksonville, Fla., Christine, Joseph and Jack, all at home; one grandson, Gregory Alan Barry; his mother, Glendina Peterson-Barry and her husband, Jim Barry of Onawa, Iowa; his sister and brother-in-law, Sharol and Doug Bottorff of Sioux City; mother-in-law, Joey Elworth of Beaver Lake, Neb.; numerous sisters and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred; a sister, Patti Ball; his father-in-law, Herbert Elworth; and a brother-in-law, Paul Elworth.
Pallbearers will be Doug Peterson, Daniel L. Hartnett, Dennis McCauley, Fred Chartier, Keith Davis and Dean Hanish.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
