SIOUX CITY -- Eileen C. Peterson, 90, of Sioux City passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
Services for Eileen will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery at Lawton, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m.Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Eileen was born June 10, 1919, in Sioux City, to William "John" and Lucinda M. (Fowler) Hansen in Sioux City. She attended grade school at St. Boniface and graduated from Central High School. Eileen worked in her earlier years at Wincharger and later was a homemaker raising her children.
She was united in marriage on Sept. 17, 1940, to Clifford Thomas Peterson in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 2003, in Sioux City.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the rosary society and Busy Bees. Eileen spent her entire life aiding and caring for others. She was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader. She enjoyed camping and family gatherings, playing bingo, cribbage, yahtzee and participating in a Bunco Club.
She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Peterson and Kristine (Steven) Shults, all of Sioux City; a son, John (Nancy) Peterson of Ankeny, Iowa; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Audrey) Hansel of Spring Dale, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Hansen of Sioux City, and Louise Peterson of Venus, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and 11 siblings.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Holy Spirit Retirement Home for the loving care given to Eileen and would like to designate memorials to be given to Holy Spirit.
