Verna Pearl Petersen, 87, of Sioux City died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at a Sergeant Bluff nursing home.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Karen Handke of United Methodist Church in Oto, Iowa, officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Mrs. Petersen was born July 8, 1919, in Sioux City, the daughter of Willis and Pearl (Berry) Guffy. She graduated from Sioux City schools.
She married Frank Petersen on Dec. 2, 1939, in Dakota City. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1987. She was a homemaker.
She loved fishing, traveling, working crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, watching Laurence Welk and television game shows.
Survivors include a son and his wife, James and Diana Petersen of Rodney, Iowa; two daughters, Nancy Petersen of Sioux City and Cheryl Irving of New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Berniece Lammers and Betty and her husband, Vern Peterson, both of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Judy Moore; two brothers, Willis and Fred Guffy; and a granddaughter, Cherly Ann Holman.
