James A. Perham, 96, of Sioux City died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at North Park Place.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Mr. Perham was born May 30, 1911, in Eveleth, Minn., the son of George and Laura (Mortenson) Perham. He graduated from Eveleth High School, Eveleth Junior College and the University of Minnesota with a degree in electrical engineering in 1933.
He married Aune I. Niemi in Duluth, Minn., on Nov. 24, 1934. She preceded him in death on April 11, 2005. He worked as an electrician for Seman Body Corp. in Milwaukee, Wis., and later had a small electrical contracting business in Aitkin, Minn. In 1937, he was employed in the engineering department of the Thor Power Tool Company in Aurora, Ill. He was the chief engineer of Thor and Speedway Manufacturing Company from 1946 to 1959. He was employed with Sioux Tools in Sioux City from 1960 and retired as engineering manager in 1976.
He enjoyed fishing, geology and his main passion was business management. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Tyrian Lodge, the Consistory and the Shrine. He was a member of S.C.O.R.E., where he was a past chairman. He also served as a chairman and president of the Sunrise Retirement board.
Survivors include a son, David G. Perham of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Mary Hindman of Deer Park, Wash.; and two sisters, Laua Hill of Bergland, Mich., and Geraldine Floyd of Ely, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a daughter, Joan G. Perham; a son, James Perham; three sisters, Perdita Dramm, Dorothea Goodfellow and Marjorie Perham; and a brother, George M. Perham.
