Loren J. Peck, 80, of Sioux City died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Doran officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Loren James Peck was born June 16, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Charles L. and Margaret (Hagman) Peck. He was a life long Sioux City resident. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Jean Marie Smith on Jan. 6, 1951, in Elk Point, S.D. He was a railroad engineer for Burlington Northern for 43 years.

He loved spending time with his grandkids. He especially enjoyed family vacations at the lakes. He also enjoyed racing and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes play.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Marie Peck of Sioux City; four sons, David (Sherrill) Peck of Sioux Falls, S.D., Charles (Diane) Peck of Omaha, Loren (Darcie) Peck Jr. of Champlin, Minn., and Gregory (Donielle) Peck of Sioux City; a daughter, Cynthia (Steve) Monell of Fort Collins, Colo.; two brothers, Archie (Darlene) Peck of Sioux City and Roger (Leta) Peck of Windsor, Colo.; two sisters, his twin June (Bob) Young of Sioux City and Norma "Sugar" (Frank) Johnson of Belton, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Ella Mae and Gerrit Peck; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, David Peck, Aaron Peck, Ryan Peck, Daniel Peck, Jason Peck and Tyler "T.J." Peck. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Sarah Johnson, Natalie Monell, Christopher Monell, Jillian Peck, Jacquelyn Peck, Alec Peck, Madison Peck, Ashlyn Peck and Lauryn Peck.
