Vernon L. Peck, 91, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Community of Christ Church, with Evangelist Robert Smith officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.
Vernon was born on Oct. 30, 1919, to Vernon A. and Naomi (Hedland) Peck. He was married to Frances Smith on June 9, 1941, in South Sioux City. She preceded him in death on June 21, 2000, in Sioux City. Vernon was a mechanic for Goodyear for 25 years, retiring on Dec. 13, 1980.
Vernon attended the Community of Christ Church. He enjoyed crocheting, gardening and camping.
Vernon is survived by his two daughters, Jeanette (John) Pittenger of Sioux City, and Barb (Vince) Bugg of Sergeant Bluff; six grandchildren, Michelle Davis and significant other, Rich Pope, Brad (Honore) Pittenger, Matt (Emily) Pittenger, Tami (Gary) March, Marcy (Ron) Hummel and Scott (Molly) Johnson; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sons, Robert and William Peck; a brother; and a sister.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Siouxland.
