Howard C. Pearson

Howard C. Pearson, 78, of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at a local hospital. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2008, from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.) A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2008 at Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Mark McGlohon officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Howard was born on January 27, 1930 in Alcester, SD to Lawrence and Elsie (Edlund) Pearson. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City Schools, graduating from Central High School in 1947. After high school, he began his career with the United States Postal service as a mail carrier for at least 35 years.

Howard married Janet Swanson at Central Baptist Church in Sioux City on September 2, 1955.

He began boxing in high school and was in the Golden Gloves tournament; Howard loved to box, but didnt have the killer instinct to knock his opponent out. He was a member and very devoted to his church and AWANAs club at Bethel Baptist Church for many years. He loved to play golf at Floyd Golf Course and Hidden Acres Golf Course where he played league on Saturday. He was a devoted family man to his daughter and grandchildren. He had a helping hand whenever anyone would ask. He also loved to visit his daughter Pam in Kosovo, where she and her husband are missionaries.

He is survived by his daughter, Pam Zellmer and husband Keith of Kosovo, 5 grandchildren, Isaac Zellmer and wife Maria and their children, Kaili and Noah, Anna Zellmer, Sara Zellmer, Christina Cherkas and husband Rich and their son, Elijah, & Jacob Zellmer, 2 brothers, Larry Pearson of Alcester, SD and Ronald Pearson of Texas, and one great Aunt, Sara Olson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Janet on August 10, 1989, and a son, Douglas.
