Dorothy D. Paul, 83, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born Oct. 22, 1923, in Des Moines, to David Casper and Mary Catherine (Allison) Mohler. She grew up and attended school in the Des Moines area. After school, she went to work at an armory where they made bullets during World War II. She often spoke of the hard times her family went through during the Great Depression. She also baby-sat to earn some extra money.
She met Veryl Paul at the 39 Club in Sioux City and on May 30, 1969, they were married in Sioux City.
They enjoyed square dancing and traveling, where they went to Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Newfoundland and also took a Caribbean cruise. The couple attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Veryl of Sioux City; four daughters and their husbands, Katherine M. and David Hovde of Sioux City, Betty and James Jorgensen of Phoenix, Ariz., Judy and Carlos Wilks of Dallas, Texas, and Mary and Robert Francis of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Dale Mohler of Anaheim, Calif.; and a sister, Mary Lou Raymond of Sandy, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and 11 brothers and sisters.
