Jason U. Palmer, 87, of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2007, from 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.). A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2007, also at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Chaplain Beverly Hurni officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jason was born May 22, 1920, to Melton and Nancy Lee (Smith) Palmer in Brooklyn, Mississippi. He grew up and attended school in Brooklyn.
At the age of 20 years he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in Hattisburg, Mississippi. He then entered into the United States Army during W.W.II from 1942 unitl he was honorably discharged in 1947.
On March 13, 1946, he married Gloria H. Cooley in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They moved to Sioux City where he worked at the Sioux City Stock Yards until 1988 when he retired. He was a resident of Sioux City for 60 years.
Jason is survived by two daughters, Nancy C. Bradshaw and her husband Larry of Sioux City, IA; Ginger L. Spike and her husband Ronald of Vermillion, SD; two grandsons, Ronald Spike and his wife Heidi and Mike Bradshaw and his wife Renette. Five great grandchildren, Colton J. Spike, Carlee Marie Spike, Olivia Bradshaw, Hasten Bradshaw and Anastasia Bradshaw.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria in 2003, his parents, brothers and sisters, Hasten Palmer, Alma Knight, Minnie Mae Palmer, Agnes Holder, Maggie Byrd, Watts Palmer.
