Betty L Pace

June 8, 1924 — January 19, 2008

Betty L. Pace, 83, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at her residence following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's. With the help from Hospice, she was able to stay in her home with her family and loved ones. They are angels from God. They did so much for her and our thanks goes out to them.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2008, at St. Paul Indian Mission, Sixth and Center Streets. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel on Hamilton Blvd.

Betty was born June 8, 1924, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., the daughter of Harold and Mryta Poe. She was united in marriage on June 9, 1945 to Robert E. Pace, four days after meeting. They came to Sioux City for a two-week honeymoon and stayed here for 62 years.

She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved each child the same.

She was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion. For many years, she would go with her husband to the different schools in Sioux City and help with the "Voice of Democracy." A program supported by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She also was an active member of the Episcopal Church. She was always there to lend a helping hand when needed. She was a wonderful role model to everyone that she met.

She was a homemaker, which was something she was very good at. Not only did she take care of things inside the home, she also liked to work in the yard and take care of the sidewalks in the winter. The things in life that brought her the most joy were her husband, her kids and all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved a visit from all and she always made time for everyone.

Survivors include her sons, Stephen of Chandler, Ariz., Kelly and his wife, Melissa and Christopher and his companion, Sue, all of Sioux City; her daughters, Judith of Texas, Carla of Sioux City and Cheri of Sioux City; a sister, Dorothy Hardison of DesMoines, Wash.; a nephew, Larry Hardison of DesMoines, Wash.; two special sisters-in-law, Shirley of California, and Marge of Ohio; 19 grandchildren, Michelle, Kenneth, Molly, Rob, Lee, Nathan, Robin, Nicole, Jessica, Derek, Robert, Michael, Josephine, Deven, Cheyenne, Dakota, Draven, Taylor and Sophia; 14 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kristina, Chance, Stephanie, Jordan, Kenneth, Makenzie, Anthony, Keigan, Kohonia, Tavon, Samara, Sakari and Noah; a great-great-granddaughter, Kaylie; and 26 god children she looked out for.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mryta Poe; a brother, William; her loving husband of 61 years, Robert, may they now be together in heaven forever.

Pallbearers will be Mark Baker, Ryan Pace, Steve Pace, Chris Pace, Lon Daylong and Jeff Lair.
