SIOUX CITY -- Thomas L. Owings, 67, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Clarinda Regional Medical Center in Clarinda, Iowa.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
Thomas was born May 18, 1942, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Cecil and Christina (Peters) Owings. He graduated from Leeds High School. Thomas served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was married to Rita Kent on Oct. 5, 2001. He was a machinist for Sioux Tools for 34 1/2 years. He was a member of the Machinists Union and New Hope Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Owings of Sioux City; a son, Thomas C. Owings of Tempe, Ariz.; a stepson, Shawn (Danyel) Kobes and their children, Hannah, Brennan and Bret of Fort Dodge, Iowa; stepdaughters, Tina Kobes and significant other, Bruce Prine of Sioux City, and Mindy (Joel) Persinger and their son, Austin of Sioux City; brothers, John (Florence) Owings of Sioux City, and William (Rose) Owings of South Sioux City; and sisters, Margie (Edward) Reznicek of Omaha, and Elaine (Allan) Mitchell of Storm Lake, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three half brothers.
