Shirley J. Olson, 87, of Sioux City died Friday, May 5, 2006, at Holy Spirit Assisting Living.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (formerly Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel).

Shirley was born Jan. 27, 1919, in Scranton, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Eleana (Lorentzen) Corrie. She received her certificate from Wayne State Teachers College and later received her bachelor of arts degree from Morningside College.

She married Melvin C. Olson on May 15, 1942, in Bronson, Iowa. He died Oct. 12, 1981, in Sioux City. Shirley taught school in Bronson and Sioux City for 33 years.

She was a long-time member of Morningside Lutheran Church, where she had served as a volunteer church secretary.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry Olson and his wife, Becky of State College, Pa., Jack Olson of Texarkana, Texas and Jim Olson and his wife, Linda of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Jeni Shiltz of Sioux City, Jamie Olson of Sioux City, Eric and Allison Olson of Austin, Texas, Matt and Molly Olson of Charleston, N.C., Seth Olson of Los Angeles, Calif., Gwen and Adam Ruebenstein of Austin, Texas and Joe Olson of Dallas, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Nick, Megan, Dylan, Charley and Ava; a sister, Pauline Jones of Storm Lake, Iowa; and a brother, Sam Corrie and his wife, Betty of Bronson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association or to Morningside Lutheran Youth Group.
