Geneva Olson, 84, of Sioux City died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Catie Newman of Hornick United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Geneva was born Sept. 23, 1923, in Havershaw, Tenn., the daughter of Court and Isabelle (Burke) Simons.
She married Daniel Olson on Sept. 9, 1946, in South Sioux City. She owned and managed a family restaurant. She also worked at Sunrise Retirement Home.
In her free time, she loved to go to flea markets, cook and most of all, spend time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Donna and Robert Stowe of Sioux City, Scheryl and Rick Turkleson of Mountain Grove, Mo., and Kathy and Tim Skidmore of Salix, Iowa; a brother, Marvin Simons of South Sioux City; two sisters, Corrine Granger of Mitchell, S.D., and Jean Rumberg of Roland Oak, Va.; eight grandchildren, Pam Vickers, Rob Stowe, Shane Jones, Laurie Jones, Christina Turkleson, Eric Turkleson, Tim Skidmore and Amanda Franklin; 13 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; a son, Robert "Red" Jones; a grandson, Kyle Heck; three brothers, George, Fred and Leonard Simons; and four sisters, Virgie Powell, Maxine Pelroy, Marie Hardy and Christine Henshaw.
