Veryl Iris Olsen

Veryl Iris Olsen, 78 of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Indian Hills Hospice Unit after a long illness.

Memorial services will be 7:00 P.M. Friday, March 13, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation with the family will be 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later day in Graceland Park Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Veryl was born February 25, 1931 in Sturgis, SD the daughter of Albert and Julia (Andersen) Abraham. She grew up and attended school near Spinx, SD. On June 4, 1949 she married Lester Olsen in Sioux City. The couple settled in Sioux City in 1951 and where they raised their four children. Lester died February 10, 2001 in Sioux City.

When she was not playing Pogo games on her computer or watching Days of Our Lives, Veryl looked forward to visits with her family and friends. In earlier years she enjoyed camping and playing cards. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three children, Linda Rask of Sioux City, Gary Olsen and his wife, Chris of Sioux City and Valerie Thornton and her significant other, Robert McGinnis of Sergeant Bluff, IA; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Glen Olsen in 1991, her husband, parents, three brothers and four sisters.
