Judy K. Oleson, 62, of Sioux City died Thursday, March 15, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Pocahontas, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Judy was born Aug. 26, 1944, in Laurens, Iowa, the daughter of Kimbro and Beulah Cundiff. She attended Pocahontas Community School, graduating in 1962, where she was a proud member of the 1961 and 1962 Girls State Tournament basketball team.
She married Earl L. Oleson in 1962. Judy was a loving wife and mother, who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren while being the ultimate hostess, who had the welcome sign out at all times. Her homes in Lake Okoboji and Las Vegas were always available to all her friends and family. A wonderful cook, she loved to knit and crochet and was an avid reader and seamstress. She was into puzzles and was known to play a great game of duplicate bridge. She always gave a listening ear, a kind word and a smile to all who knew her.
Judy was the founder of the local chapter of Codependents Anonymous and enjoyed its weekly meetings throughout Sioux City. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, where she served as the confraternity treasurer for a number of years. She served on the board of directors of Judy Oleson Enterprises, Inc., E-J Development Co. and Siouxland Party and Paper, Inc.
Judy is survived by her husband of 44 years, Earl; three children, Bill and his wife, Mary of Sioux City, Matthew and his wife, Dawn of Sioux City and Pamela Oleson-Ashley and her husband, Aaron of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, June Alborn of Laurens, Iowa and Mrs. Robert (Patty) Payer of Storm Lake, Iowa; a brother, Donald Cundiff of Laurens; and six grandchildren, Terah Oleson, Daniel Oleson, Brooke Oleson, Thomas J. Oleson, Rachael Oleson and Logan Ashley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and two brothers.
Pallbearers will be Dan Hudek, Bill Lombard, Chris Payer, Tom Payer, Jeff Sales and Tom Sullivan.
