SIOUX CITY -- James Oldenkamp, 82, of Sioux City died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler officiating. Burial will be in Hospers Cemetery at Hospers, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to meyerbroschapels.com.
James Oldenkamp was born the son of John B. and Fannie (Verdoorn) Oldenkamp on May 26, 1927, in Hospers. He received his education in Hospers, graduating from Hospers High School in 1944. After graduation, Jim served his country in the U.S. Army. Jim worked at the post office as a mail clerk for 30 years.
He was a member of NARFE. He served on various board positions at Wesley United Methodist Church. Jim loved to fish and woodwork. He enjoyed playing board games and cards. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Jim was a lifelong Chicago Clubs fan.
James is survived by his wife, Darlene Oldenkamp; four sons, Rick (Wendy) Oldenkamp, Daryl (Donna) Oldenkamp, Randy Oldenkamp and Jody (Debi) Oldenkamp; one daughter, Julie (Bill) Heckart; two brothers, John (Joan) Oldenkamp Jr., and Gilbert (Bobbie) Oldenkamp; one sister, Janice (Al) Kyhl; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Donna Oldenkamp; and two brothers, Harold Oldenkamp and Willis Oldenkamp.
