Rose Ann O'Neill

Rose Ann "Rosie" O'Neill, 78, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008, at a Carroll, Iowa, hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2008 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Revs. Gary Snyder and Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary at 4 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Rosie was born Sept. 17, 1929, in Sioux City, the daughter of Daniel A. and Sara E. (Clancey) O'Kane. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools.

She worked for First National Bank in Sioux City before her marriage to Eugene M. O'Neill on Dec. 27, 1948. She lived in Willis, Neb., and South Sioux City, while the couple owned and operated O'Neill Grain Company. Over the years, she also worked for Mahon Liquor Store, The Clothes Tree and Artisan Press. She had lived in Sioux City for the past 20 years.

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. She was always active in school and church functions as her children were growing up at St. Michael Catholic Church in South Sioux City.

Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the most important part of her life. She enjoyed spending time at Lake Okoboji, cooking, sewing, embroidering and crocheting.

Survivors include five daughters Jody and her husband, Nick Kentopp of Omaha, Nancy Wiggs of Sioux City, Mary Pat and her husband, Phil Thompson of Sioux City, Lori and her husband, Dale Meyer of Sioux City, Sara and her husband, Dean Albrecht of Carroll, Iowa; a son and his wife, Mark and Dawn O'Neill of Hinton, Iowa; sister, Delphine Kuehl of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Russell.
