Hilda J. O'Neill of Sioux City died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Hilda was born Oct. 25, 1908, the daughter of William and Mary (Knutzen) Kroll. She spent her childhood in Ute, Iowa, moving with her family to Sioux City in 1923. She graduated from Central High School in 1926. In 1927, she started working for Northwestern Bell Company. She worked for them for 30 years, retiring in 1969.
She married Robert J. O'Neill of Sioux City in Sterling, Colo., on Sept. 24, 1947. He died Sept. 25, 1976.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Telephone Pioneers of America, the Gospel Mission Auxiliary and the Siouxland Senior Center. The couple both loved to travel and spent winters in Sun City, Ariz., and La Jolla, Calif. After his death, she joined the Adventures Travel Club and took many trips with them.
She is survived by two nephews, Dr. Eric Kroll of Reno, Nev., and Ronald M. Willhite of Littleton, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Alma Willhite of Lakewood, Colo.; three brothers, Walter Kroll of Shenandoah, Iowa, Ernest Kroll of Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Ray Kroll of Reno, Nev.; and a nephew, Gerry Willhite of Grand Junction, Colo.
