Hilda Marie O'Connell, 89, of Sioux City died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at her daughter's residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2008, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Leo Kostizen officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Hilda was born May 14, 1918, in Sioux City, the daughter of Hulda Kern and Carl Stoltze. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City Schools.
She married Manley O'Connell on Dec. 29, 1944. She had three children, Tom, Sharon and Ron. She worked for several years at Armour's.
She crocheted and quilted many beautiful blankets and afghans. She loved to work on her lawn, cook, bake and many different activities. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was part of the women's groups which worked on the big book.
Survivors include daughters, Sharon Varvais and her daughter, Pamela Ingram and Angela and her husband, Michael Piklapp II; a son, Ronald O'Connell and his children, Shelly, Charity and Shawn; Melissa and Todd O'Connell, children of her deceased son, Thomas M. O'Connell; four great-grandchildren, Whitney, Ryne and Keegan Ingram and Kilee Piklapp, who loved their grandma dearly; sisters, Eva Wickert, Ida Mackey and Edna and her husband, Ervin Hoffman; brothers and their wives, Carl and Cora Stoltze and Robert and Elaine Stoltze; a sister-in-law, Vera Stoltze; a brother-in-law, Fred Casper; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Manley O'Connell; a brother, Henry Stoltze, a sister, Louise Casper; and a son, Thomas D. O'Connell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
