September 13, 1913 — January 30, 2007

Helen P. Norman, 93, of Sioux City, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at a local nursing home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2007 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will then begin at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2007 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery.

Helen was born September 11, 1913 to George and Esther (Larson) Gorder in Lead, South Dakota. She moved to Sioux City with her parents at a young age. She grew up and attended school in Sioux City, graduating from Central High School in 1931. On July 3, 1936, she married Clifford Norman Sr. in Jefferson, South Dakota. During W.W.II the couple moved to Alameda, CA where she worked as a Rosie Riveter in the shipyards. After the end of the war, they returned to Sioux City. She was a resident of Sioux City for 88 years. Helen worked as a clerk at Woolworths and also at Zenith for 7 years and several other places through out the years.

Helen is survived by 4 granddaughters, Kathy Hippensteel and her 4 children, Dakota, Briez, Rylee and Cheyann Hippensteel, Deborah of TX, Ronda of Sioux City and Mitzy of TX. A sister Jean Fryrear and her husband Robert of Madison, CT and her children Steve Fryrear and Sandra Khoo and her daughter Alexandra. Several other great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, 1 niece Jane and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford Sr., son Clifford Jr., 2 sisters Mildred Gorder and Francis Betty Johnston.
