William E. Noreen

SUTHERLAND, Iowa -- William E. "Bill" Noreen, 60, of Sutherland passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2010, at the Cherokee Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa, following a battle against cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Sitzmann as officiant. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present beginning at 6 p.m.

Bill was born on Jan. 1, 1950, in Sioux City, to Raymond E. and Leola (Decker) Noreen. He was raised in Sioux City, attending school at St. Joseph's and Central High School. Bill served in the U.S. Army between 1968 until 1972 and upon his discharge enrolled at the Kansas City Kansas State College, where he attended for two years. He started his work career in auto body, but changed to an over-the-road driver, owning his own trucking company, and most recently drove for Cloverleaf Transport. Bill gave 21 years of service to the truck driving career he greatly enjoyed.

Bill married Rebecca Jones on Feb. 3, 1989, in Elk Point, S.D. He collected caps, enjoyed gardening and kept as a hobby his auto body talents, especially working on old trucks.

Bill is survived by his wife, Rebecca of Sutherland; sons, Richard Jones of Bellevue, Neb., and Robert Jones of Grand Rapids, Mich.; granddaughters, Sarah Beth Jones and Grace Marie Jones; mother, Leola Noreen; brothers and their wives, Steve (JoLaine) Noreen, Tom (Kristin) Noreen, Jim (Connie) Noreen, Pat (Janelle) Noreen and Ray (Renee) Noreen, all of Sioux City; mother-in-law, Reatha Jones of New Port Richey, Fla.; and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts and uncles.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Noreen.
