Douglas A. Nordstrom, 90, of Sioux City died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Covenant Church, with the Revs. Michael Zabel and Donn Engebretson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Douglas A. Nordstrom was born July 6, 1917, in Wakefield, Neb. He was a graduate of Wakefield High School and attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. He graduated from Morningside College, where he was a part-time instructor for 26 years.
He married Helen L. Enockson on April 5, 1943, in Sioux City. Prior to World War II, he was employed by the Livestock National Bank. During World War II, he served with the 8th Air Corps in the European Theater of operation from 1943 to 1946. From 1946 to 1980, he was office manager and in 1956 became a partner of Wagner, Garrison and Abbott Livestock Company.
He was a member of the Livestock Exchange and served on the United Way and the Little Yellow Dog. He served as a director of Security National Bank. He was a member of First Covenant Church, where he served on the council in various capacities.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; three daughters, Linda M. Nelson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sally J. Engebretson of Deerfield, Ill., and Peggy L. Davis of Omaha; a sister, Inabelle L. Johnson of Tempe, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ervin E. Nordstrom and Doliver P. Nordstrom.
