SIOUX CITY -- James R. "Blue" Nolen Sr., 87, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at his residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2010 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
James, the son of Vernon and Anna (Hjort) Nolen, was born Oct. 7, 1923, in Todd County, Minn. He received his education in Whiting, Iowa. James honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Marjorie Cooper on April 15, 1947, in Sisseton, S.D. He worked for Payless Cashway for 38 years. James was a lifelong Sioux City resident.
James enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fishermen. He also enjoyed carpentry and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Sioux City; five sons, James (Jodi) Nolen Jr. of McCook Lake, S.D., Joe (Cindy) Nolen of Sioux City, Richard (Marie) Nolen of Sioux City, David (Judy) Nolen of Wilson, N.C., and Mike (Lori) Rose of Sioux City; two daughters, Barbara (Dennis) Hageman of Sioux City, and Teresa Jovanovic of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald; one sister, Verna Mae; and one grandson, Corey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice of Siouxland.
