Norbert Norb J. Nixa, 84, of Sioux City, passed away, Monday, July 10, 2006 at a local nursing home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2006 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A memorial service will then be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2006 at Immaculate Conception Church with Reverend Dan Guenther celebrating. Burial of ashes will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Norb was born June 5, 1922 in Paynesville, MN to Albert George A.G. and Katherine (Hansen) Nixa. Norb grew up in Minnesota and attended St. Johns Catholic School and graduated from Rochester High School. He then attended Rochester Jr. College. Norb enlisted in the United States Navy in November 1940. On November 20, 1943 he married Jean Dauplaise in Pensacola, FL where he was stationed. He was honorably discharged in October 1946. After his discharge the couple lived in Hawarden, Mason City, and Britt, Iowa and also Rochester, MN before moving to Sioux City in 1957 where he worked at Chris Hansen Construction until his retirement in 1991. Norb was a member of Hinton American Legion Post #477, Experimental Aviation Assn. Knights of Columbus Epiphany Council #743, Sioux City Home Builders 2 terms as president, Sioux City Construction League- President and Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include his wife Jean Nixa, 10 children, Jeanne Johnson of Delano, MN: David Nixa and wife Jill of Avon, CT: Sandra Gernhart and husband Terry of Milwaukee, WI: Kristine Brown and husband Tim of Clearwater, FL: Nancy Gress and husband Art of Smithville, MO: Steven Nixa and wife Dottie of Advance, NC: Joan Dean and husband Danny of Westfield, IA: Mark Nixa of North Sioux City, SD: Alan Nixa and wife Fawn of Henniker, NH: and Joseph Nixa and wife Cindy of Ute, IA: 26 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren. 8 brothers and sisters, Luella Tesoriero, Marcella Keller, Myrtle Fleischer, Judith Stellpflug, Arthur Nixa, Jerome Nixa, George Nixa, and Robert Nixa.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 1 son Jerome Nixa, 1 son-in-law David Johnson, 3 brothers Eugene, William and Donald Nixa. 1 Granddaughter Sara Steinhoff, 2 Great-Granddaughters, Tori Hobbs, Chloe Fitzpatrick, 1 Great-Grandson, Conlee Gress
