SIOUX CITY -- Eugene B. Newton, 81, of Sioux City died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Touchstone Senior Living following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.
Eugene was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Fredricksberg, Va., the son of John and Goldie (Boblitt) Newton. He came with his family to Sioux City in 1936. He attended Hawthorne Elementary and Leeds High School.
He married Viola Mae Broyhill in 1945, in Sioux City. She died in 1988, in San Antonio, Texas. He married Leota Mae Sheperd on Dec. 18, 1971, in Sioux City. She died June 29, 1988, in Sioux City. He was self-employed in the trucking and farming industries.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He ran race cars and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Newton and his wife, Gale of Mayer, Ariz., and John Newton of Los Angeles, Calif.; a special friend, Donna Krayenhagen of Sioux City; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harry and Bill Newton.
Pallbearers will be Richard, John, Rick, Scott and Ben Newton and Louis Davis.
