SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Nellie Marie (Buhman) Newman, 84, of South Sioux City passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2008 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Dan Wittrock officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Nellie was born June 21, 1923, in Park Rapids, Minn., to Carl and Kathleen (Helder) Buhman.
She married Cecil M. Newman on May 18, 1941, at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. She was a longtime resident of Sioux City. She made her career at Sunshine Foods Markets beginning in 1956. She was the restaurant manager in numerous locations, but retired in 1988 as manager of the Indian Hills location. She moved to South Sioux City in 2001 to be close to her daughter.
She was a S.C.O.R.E. volunteer, a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital and a federal court liaison during her retirement years. She was a proud member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Marlene and Ron LaCroix of South Sioux City and Margo and Jim Boyd of Phoenix, Ariz.; a son and his wife, Gerold and Bev Newman of Arkansas; a sister, Louise Bridgett of Sioux City; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Cecil in 1974.
