Margaret H. Nelson

SIOUX CITY -- Margaret H. Nelson, 88, of Sioux City passed away Monday, March 8, 2010, at Touchstone Living Center.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010 at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tom Lo Van officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Margaret was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Sioux City, the daughter of Peter M. and Johanna B. (Lynen) Van Waart.

On June 15, 1941, she married Myron A. Nelson. He died March 4, 1982, in Sioux City. In 1971, she started working for the Sioux City Community Schools, where she supervised their lunch programs. She later served lunches at Nodland Elementary School until the age of 80.

She was a longtime member of Morningside Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Buster of Sioux City; three granddaughters, Amy Buster, Elizabeth Buster and Heather Buster; a great-grandson, Craig Harris; two brothers, Leo Van Waart and Henry Van Waart, both of Sioux City; a sister, Corrine "Pat" Dikeman of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Marion Young; three brothers, Joe, Hans and Pete Van Waart; two infant sisters; and a son-in-law, Jack Buster.

Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of Siouxland or Morningside Lutheran Church.
