Alex Lester Nelson

September 29, 1987 — November 14, 2007

Alex L. Nelson, 20, of North Sioux City, South Dakota passed away unexpectedly due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2007 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A vigil service will then begin at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the Dakota Valley High School Gymnasium in North Sioux City with Father Craig Collison officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City.

Alex was born on September 29, 1987 to Jim and Christine (Christiansen) Nelson in Sioux City. He grew up in North Sioux City and attended school at Dakota Valley where he graduated in 2006. While in high school he participated in football, baseball and basketball. Alex was much more than an athlete though, he was a friend to many. He enjoyed playing video games, spending time with his brothers and family, listening to music, and also enjoyed playing mud and sand volleyball. He was currently taking classes at Western Iowa Tech, working at Lewis Bowl and helping young children at Beyond the Bell at Irving Elementary School. Alex touched many lives in his short time. He had a lot of potential for his life and he was loved by all his family and friends.

Of all of Alexs loves basketball was something he took true to heart. His love of basketball took him too many tournaments around the Midwest and even to Florida to compete in the AAU Nationals his 8th grade year. The success continued in high school. He was a four year starter at Dakota Valley and was named 2nd All Conference Team in basketball his sophomore year, and 1st All Conference Team his Junior and Senior years. Alex was the first player to score over 1000 points in Dakota Valley history and was looked up to by many young children at Dakota Valley.

Alex is survived by his mother, Christine Nelson of North Sioux City, SD. two brothers, Benjamin Nelson and his special friend Mindi Lofflin of North Sioux City, SD. and Jim (JJ) Nelson Jr. of Omaha, NE. Special Aunts and Uncles, Ray & Nola Christiansen, Dick & Sherry Connors, Joan Christiansen, Mike & Pat Christiansen, Randy & Linda Christiansen, Cliff & Gail Schoepf, Dave & Marlene Fornia, Kirk & Tammy Estergaard, Bill Christiansen, Dan & Linda Nelson, Merrie Jo Patalski and many cousins.

Alex was preceded in death by his father Jim Joseph Nelson, grandparents, Whitey & Lorraine Christiansen, and Ray & Lilla Marine, uncle, Joe Christiansen and cousins, Jeff Christiansen, Scott Prescott, Lana Connors and Jennifer Christiansen.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alex Nelson memorial fund at any Security National Bank location.
