SIOUX CITY -- Hazel Bertiena Hempey Naughton, 93, of Sioux City passed away Monday, June 29, 2009, at her daughter's residence following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with her grandson-in-law, the Rev. Doug Bankson of Apopka, Fla., officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday.
Hazel was born Nov. 19, 1915, in Vancouver, Wash., British Columbia, the daughter of Oscar and Tecla (Lundquist) Heglin. She graduated from Beresford (S.D.) High School, where she was raised. She then attended Nettleton Business College.
She married Ralph Hempey in 1933. The couple later divorced in 1958. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2009. She married James Naughton in 1959. He preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 1998. She worked for Phillips Cafeteria, Anderson Bakery, Philips Electric and the courthouse in the license bureau.
She attended Cornerstone World Outreach.
Survivors include her son, Guy Hempey and his wife, Pat of Sioux City; a daughter, Luella and her husband, Ralph Pedersen of Sioux City; a daughter, Debbi and her husband, Dael Hunter of Broken Arrow, Okla.; grandchildren, Jo Dee Weltz, Jason Hempey, Todd Pedersen, Jeri Bankson, Jamie Christensen, David Pedersen, Lee Pedersen, Denise King and Faith Hunter; stepgrandchildren, Warren, Brent, Mark, Daelene and Vernadine; and 40 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, James Naughton and Ralph Hempey; three brothers; and two sisters.
