SIOUX CITY -- Esther B. Nailor, 98, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Sunrise Retirement Community comforted by family.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Hoyt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Esther was born Nov. 9, 1911, in rural Battle Creek, Iowa, to Clyde L. and Goldie (Carnes) Kerr. She received her education in Battle Creek, graduating from Battle Creek Public Schools.
She married George H. Nailor, to which union four children were born. The family farmed in the Battle Creek area before the untimely death of Esther's husband, George, in 1950. She moved her children to Sioux City and began her career at St. Joseph's Hospital as a nurses aide. She retired after 25 years of service.
She was talented, due to necessity, in electrical wiring, home repair projects and woodworking. She enjoyed reading, traveling, dining out with her family members and taking in the beauty of blooming flowers. She prided herself in her family involvement and was forever devoted to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Watkins and her husband, Ken of Ponca, Neb.; brothers, Donald Kerr of Battle Creek and Harlan Kerr and his wife, Marjorie of Laramie, Wyo.; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Nailor of Jefferson, Iowa; a son-in-law, Dave Hendrickson of Early, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; daughters, Phyllis Brown and Nancy Hendrickson; a son, Roger Nailor; and two brothers, Ray and Ralph Kerr.
