Nola R. Murphy, 89, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Holy Spirit Nursing Home Chapel, with the Rev. Martha Anderson of Trimble United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service today at the nursing home chapel. A lunch be held at 12:30 p.m. today in the apartment lounge of the independent living apartments at the nursing home. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Nola R. Murphy was born Nov. 12, 1919, in Armour, S.D., the daughter of Charles E. and Margaret (Campbell) Altenburg. She graduated from Armour High School.
She married Richard Murphy on July 1, 1953, in South Sioux City. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1989. She was employed as a secretary for the Pendelton Indiana Department of Corrections, the Red Cross and the Municipal Credit Union in Sioux City.
She liked to sew, play cards, cook for family and friends and go out to eat. She was of the Lutheran religion. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sisters, Margaret and her husband Paul Gosney of Deland, Fla., and Clara Ziebert of Spearfish, S.D.; a special friend, Dorothy Strickland of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant sister; a brother, Charles; a sister, Erna Putnam; and two brothers-in-law, Walt Ziebert and Charles Smith.
