SIOUX CITY -- Marian W. Murad, 85, of Sioux City was welcomed into heaven by God on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, and now looks over us with Solomon, her loving husband of 49 years.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Paul Hodge officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery, Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a Trisagion service at 7:45 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave.
Marian was born Nov. 19, 1924, in Sioux City, to John and Lucile (Hoover) Hamel. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School and graduated from Central High School in 1942. After graduating from high school, she worked for a period of time at Victory Theatre, Wincharger, Sioux City Battery Company and Aalfs-Baker Manufacturing Company.
She married Solomon S. Murad on June 29, 1957, in Elk Point, S.D. She helped her husband, Sol, in the family business, Murad Brothers Excavating and Hauling for many years.
Marian was a member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church and was actively involved with the annual Syrian Dinners. She cherished her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and grandcats. She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens and fishing with her husband, Sol, and their grandchildren.
Marian was an angel who touched everyone she met. To know her was to love her and we will greatly miss her until we see her again one day.
Those left to cherish her memories include two sons, Joe Hamel and his wife, Jackie of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, and Rodney Murad and his wife, Denise of Sioux City; two daughters, Dorine Murad-Johnson and her husband, Steve Johnson of Sioux City and Anna Murad of Sioux City; a brother, John "Bud" Hamel and his wife, Wanda of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Aaron Hamel and his wife, Tanya, Eric Hamel, Jon Murad and his wife, Heather, Mike Murad and his wife, Brianna and two granddaughters, Hannah and Lexie Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Jacob and Halle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Solomon.
Pallbearers will be Jon Murad, Mike Murad, Ron Counter, Gerry Stevens, Phil Stevens and Brandon Andersen. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Johnson and Jackie Larsen.
