SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Evelyn A. Muff, 88, of South Sioux City passed away quietly Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at her residence following a brief illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2008 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Daniel Wittrock officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Evelyn Aletha (Hagberg) Muff, was born April 22, 1920, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Helen (Christopher) Hagberg. She spent her childhood years in Des Moines and graduated from Des Moines East High School before moving to Sioux City. After receiving her teaching certificate from Morningside College, she taught in the Whiting, Iowa, and Sioux City Public Schools Systems.
On April 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Carroll P. Muff at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City. They spent the majority of their married life in Sioux City. In 1985, the couple moved to South Sioux City to be near their children. The couple most recently celebrated their 61st year of marriage together with their children.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City. She will be remembered for her cooking, never ending humor and incisive wit. She will continue to be a tower of inspiration to all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Carroll of South Sioux City; four children and their spouses, Carroll and Sandra Muff Jr., Terry and Marilyn Muff, Steve and Connie Muff and Nancy and Bob Giese, all of South Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin Hagberg of South Sioux City; several nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Mary Ann O'Dell of South Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; a brother, Edward; and a sister, Helen.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tyler, Brian, David, Eric and Bryce Muff, Bob Giese Jr. and Ben Giese. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Ashley Muff, Allison Berg, Haley Muff and Season Giese.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Michael's Catholic Church of South Sioux City or Hospice of Siouxland.
