Orville William Muenchau, 84, of Sioux City died peacefully Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Countryside Retirement Home.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. William L. Love officiating. Private graveside services will be held prior to the service Saturday in Logan Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home. Orville was born March 3, 1922, in Eagle, Neb., the son of William Ernest and Ida JoHanna (Wolken) Muenchau. He graduated from Eagle High School in 1939. He enrolled in the Lincoln School of Commerce in 1940 and entered the work force. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, having served 38 months prior to being discharged in November 1945.He married Dorothy Cathleen Stufft on June 4, 1950, in Lincoln, Neb. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1952. They had four children, Cheryl, Theresa "Teri", Kevin and Joel. He was employed with Carpenter Paper Company for 39 years as the assistant manager in Sioux City and later was a traveling salesman in South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa. Following his retirement in 1987, he painted fire hydrants for the city of Sioux City for four summers. He also worked as a grocery sacker for Boulevard Food Store, later Hy-Vee.
He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Order, the Scottish Rite, a past president of High Twelve and was a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine for 35 years as a Shrine Chanter. He performed with the Chanters in hundreds of performances throughout the United States, Great Britain, Germany and Canada. He was a 50-year member of First Presbyterian Church, having sung for 40 years in the Chancel Choir. He also was a longtime member of the Sioux City Boat Club. He volunteered with the American Legion and other civic organizations.
Survivors include a daughter, Theresa of Denver, Colo.; a son and his wife, Joel and Karen of Woodland Park, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Jason and Kristen Muenchau.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy; a daughter, Cheryl; and a son, Kevin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Siouxland or the Abu Bekr Shrine Transportation Fund.
