Chris L. Mudder

Chris L. Mudder, 87, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Third Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jennifer Santer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (formerly Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel). Chris was born March 11, 1919, in Avon, S.D., the son of Stephan and Grace (Oorlog) Mudder. He attended rural Avon schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was severely wounded on the Philippine island of Leyte and was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

He married Mary Dvorak on Oct. 4, 1940, in Elk Point, S.D. She died Jan. 29, 2005, in Sioux City. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Sioux City. In earlier years, Chris worked as a farmhand in the rural areas of South Dakota. He also served with the Civilian Conservation Corps. While in Sioux City, he worked for Cudahy Packing Co., Sioux Tools, Dyna Tech and Prince Manufacturing Co. and retired in 1981.

He was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 580 and was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Sylvia Mudder of Avon, S.D., Ken and Ruth Dvorak of Wagner, S.D. and Willard and Elsie Goranson of Omaha, Neb.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; eight brothers, Ted, George, Henry, Dick, Steve, Allen, Irwin and Kenneth Mudder; and four sisters, Christina Lippert, Bertha De Vries, Grace Silvernail and Elizabeth Stimpson.

Pallbearers will be Alvin Mudder, Jerry Mudder, Vernon Dvorak, Jody Dvorak, Robert Dvorak and Richard Dvorak.

Memorials may be directed to Third Presbyterian Church.
