SIOUX CITY -- Meryle Motts, 90, of Sioux City died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dave Denzer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Mrs. Motts was born April 16, 1919, in Sioux City, the daughter of Albert and Mattie Mae (Amick) Brostrom. She graduated from East High School and attended the National Business Training College.
She was married to John E. Motts on Aug. 25, 1945, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2000. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Brodkey and Goodsite Jewelers.
She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and watching the Chicago Cubs, Bulls and the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball team. She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a former member of the Scandinavian Society.
Survivors include a son, John Motts of Omaha; a sister, Frances Marx of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Thelma Oberreuter of Danbury, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant brother, Don; brothers, Lambert and Robert; and a sister, Thelma Janssen.
Pallbearers will be Scott Marx, Tom Oberreuter, Robert Eastlund, Marty Haugen, Robert Sable, Josh Marx.
