James L. Morehead Sr. 77, of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at a local hospital. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will then begin at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at Bethany Lutheran Church with Reverend Leo Kostizen officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
James was born on September 3, 1929 in Akron, Iowa to Guy and Ida (Hummel) Morehead. He grew up in the Akron area and attended school in Chatsworth. He worked on the family farm and also helped his neighbors on their farms until he moved to Sioux City in 1947.
James married Marian Perera on June 17, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
He worked at W.A. Klinger Construction in Sioux City as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #234, for 35 years and retired in 1990 but continued to work there on a part-time basis.
James was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Sioux City, where he served in numerous offices. James enjoyed many things like fishing, hunting and playing cards with family and friends but he really enjoyed working on the farm with his son, and spending time with his family.
James is survived by his wife, Marian of 56 years, son James L. Morehead Jr. and wife Lois of Hinton, IA; daughter, Vicky and her husband the Reverend David Bott of Jackson, WY; grandchildren, Tonia Wieseler and husband Doug, Bradley Britton, Amanda Ash, Elizabeth Castro and husband Angel, Kathryn Jensen, Ede Compton and her husband Will. 6 great grandchildren, sisters, JoAnn Perera and husband Jerry of Sioux City, IA; and Mary Lundy and husband Jerry of Gresham, OR. sister-in-law and niece, Joyce and Valerie Comstock of Sioux City, IA. as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and friends who loved him very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Peggy Jensen, brothers and sisters, Helen, Robert, Keith, Dorothy, and Clifford.
