David F. Mitchell

June 30, 1917 — March 9, 2010

David F. Mitchell, 92, of Sioux City died Tuesday, March 9 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. A gathering of family and friends will take place 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

David was born June 30, 1917 in Skidmore, Missouri, the son of Harry D. and Gertrude (Mason) Mitchell. He graduated with a bachelors degree in Agriculture from University of Missouri in Columbia where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.

He married Lou Ella Turpin in 1939, in St. Joseph, Missouri. The couple lived in St. Joseph from 1940-1950. They then moved to Sioux City.

In 1986 Dave retired as manager of Producers Livestock Commission Association at the Sioux City Stockyards. He served in the U. S Navy during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, SCORE, and the Stock Yards Old Timers Club.

Survivors include two sons, H.D. Mitchell and his wife, Beth (Mason) of Downers Grove, IL., and John Mitchell of St. Louis Park MN.; two grandsons, Steve Mitchell and his wife, Dana (Benzaquen) of Downers Grove, IL., and Brett Mitchell of St. Louis Park, MN; two great grandchildren, Violet and Miles David of Downers Grove, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife and by a grandson, David.

Memorials in Davids name may be made to Holy Spirit Nursing Home and Hospice of Siouxland.
