Robert B. Miller

SIOUX CITY -- Robert Bogdan Miller, 81, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at a San Diego hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Whitfield United Methodist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Michelle Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, with family present from 7 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Bob was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Sioux City, to George and Bessie Miller, who were Serbian immigrants. He attended schools in Sioux City, graduating from Central High School in 1946.

He married Patricia McArthur on April 25, 1952. They raised three sons. Pat died Sept. 16, 2001.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon his discharge from the Navy in 1948, he attended National Business Training College (NBT) in Sioux City. He then entered the Railway Mail Service, now the U.S. Postal Service, retiring Dec. 31, 1987, in Sioux City. Following retirement, he was a Siouxland Regional Transit System driver for seven years. Bob and Pat moved to San Diego in 1999.

He was a member of American Legion Post 64 and past commander of VFW Post 580. Bob was an active member of Whitfield United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed participating in the peanut brittle project. He spent nearly 30 years coaching Little League, Youth League and Babe Ruth teams in Sioux City. He was one of the original founders{M3 of the Sioux City Saints Baseball Team. His hobbies included bowling, playing cribbage and golf.

In San Diego, Bob enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, shooting pool and participating in events at the neighborhood club house where he made many friends.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth and Cindy of Blue Grass, Iowa, Leonard and Wyonne of Sioux City, and Dennis and Lisa of Poway, Calif.; two brothers, George and Geneva "Genie" Miller Jr., and Donald Miller, both of Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, Lucy Miller-Harris of Sioux City and Mary (McArthur) Hanzlik and her husband Paul of Gilbert City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Anthony, Brittni, Kaylah, McKenzy, Alyx and Jeremy Miller, and Jason Nydam and his wife Myra; three great-grandchildren, Kassandra "KC" May, Jasmyn Nydam and Jason Nydam II; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia; two brothers, Millord and Leonard; a sister, Kristina; a brother-in-law, Robert McArthur; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Miller and Florence Miller.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Miller, Jeremy Miller, Gregory Miller, Gregory Pranke, Jerry Munson and Ron Faraci.
