A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2007 at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Alan Wicks officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
The second of five children, Pearl was born on November 13, 1911 to Oliver Edward and Gea Oleana (Engan) Bonnes. She grew up in rural Plymouth County where her parents were actively involved in Perry Township. She proudly graduated from Central High School in 1931 where she was involved in Erodelphian Literary Society, Friendship Club, and Hi-Tri Club. She was also Twist Club President and Secretary. Upon graduating Pearl was a Teacher.
On May 22, 1935 Pearl married her love, Arthur Charles Miller. The couple made their home in Sioux City and in 1947 bought a farm in rural Hinton. After raising her family, she worked as a seamstress at Williges before retiring. Mrs. Miller was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She was active in Friendship Club, Birthday Club, Senior Citizens, as well as several card clubs.
Her family wishes to pay her the highest of tributes, especially when referring to the kind of life she lived, being a devoted Christian and one who was always ready to lend a helping hand. Pearl was witty, hard-working, and very kind. She was extremely well-liked by her peers. After retiring, Pearl could most often be found enjoying coffee with her relatives and friends. She bore her affliction patiently until the end came, and all can say with confidence, that they believe Grandma Miller has gone to Jesus and the loved ones in glory.
Mrs. Miller is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; a son, Donald Edward; her parents; three brothers, Oral, Warren, and Robert Bonnes; her sister and best friend, Minnie (Bonnes) Hansen; a son-in-law, Gene Nugent, and a daughter-in-law, Lois Miller. She is survived by a daughter, Joan (Miller) Nugent of Yankton, S.D.; a son, James of Hinton; 7 grandchildren, Scott Nugent, Larry Nugent, Craig Miller, and Christie (Miller) McLaughlin, all of Sioux City; Mark Nugent of Carlsbad, California; Kevin Miller of Lawton; and Jennifer (Miller) Schau of Austin, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Bonnes and Colleen Bonnes, both of Sioux City.
