Funeral services for Harold Ellsworth Miller, 81 of South Sioux City will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Harold passed away on Sunday at his residence.
Harold was born on October 27, 1927 in Dakota City, NE to Harry G. and Edna Mae (Moffitt) Miller. He attended rural Nebraska Schools. He was married to Ruby P. VanVickle in March of 1954. She preceded him in death in 1982. He later married Marjorie Barns in 1983. She preceded him in death in 1996.
Harold served his country during World War II in the US Army stationed outside Japan at Camp Drake. Harold was an Engineer for the Burlington Northern Rail Road for 40 years. He also owned and operated Harolds Truck and Salvage in South Sioux City, NE. Harold enjoyed trucks and salvage work, watching races at Park Jefferson Speedway, truck auctions, hard work and reading his Wall Street Journal.
Harold is survived by his 2 daughters Connie (Ed) Flieder; Wendy Miller; and son Richard (Christy) Miller all of Sioux City; 7 grandchildren Heather Lynch, Renee Owen, Samantha Miller, David Miller, Megan McPherson, Taylor Miller, and Travis Miller; 5 step grandchildren Jimmy, John, Terry, Veronica, and Shane Johnson; 3 great grandchildren Tyler and Bailey Lynch, and Cameron Owen; several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife in 1982 and his second wife in 1996, son Terry in 1989, daughter Brenda Singer McPherson in 1992, 2 brothers Ralph and Oliver Miller, 3 sisters Francis, Gloria and Alberta.
Pallbearers will be Wendy Miller, David Miller, Richard Miller, Ed Flieder, Chad Lynch, Tyler Lynch, and Travis Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
