Esther E. Miller, 85, of Akron, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Akron City Convalescent Care Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Esther E. Miller was born March 29, 1923, in Parkston, S.D., the daughter of Otto and Amanda (Heil) Fischer. She graduated from Sioux City Central High School.
She married Charles E. Miller Jr. on Oct. 15, 1946, in Petersburg, Neb. He preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1998, in Sioux Falls, S.D. She was a housewife.
In her free time, she loved to play cards, canning, playing bingo and calling into contests to win prizes. She loved house plants, shopping, cutting out coupons, but most of all, spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald E. and Kathy Miller of Sioux City and Leonard and Margaret Miller of Sioux City; a daughter, Terrie and Brian Petersen of Akron, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Lester; two stepbrothers, Harry and Harvey; three stepsisters, Diane, Tiny and Lorraine; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Herman and Walter Fischer; and a sister, Eleanor.
Pallbearers will be Jeff, Chad, Matt and Brice Miller, John Hathaway and Joe Pippett.
